Three friends met at Brown University singing in the Brown Derbies a cappella group. After graduation they wound up in San Francisco — Rick had picked up a guitar along the way — and Simple Charlie was born.
From 1997 to 2000 they played original songs at bars and venues across the city, with Joe Agrillo and Rafi Lago rounding out the lineup. The sound was honest: three voices, acoustic guitar, songs about growing up and figuring things out.
The band dissolved when lives took different directions. The recordings stayed. This site is a small monument to what they made.
